KakiRepair

KakiRepair is a community movement that encourages Malaysians to repair rather than discard their belongings. Started as an extension of the KakiDIY platform, it organises open repair sessions where volunteers guide participants in troubleshooting and fixing items ranging from electronics to furniture and household tools.

Workshops may take place in community halls, malls or even in a mobile “MakerVan”. The focus is not on free service alone, but on building confidence and curiosity. Participants learn how things are constructed, which components fail most often, and how simple maintenance can extend a product’s life.

In a terroir economy, KakiRepair shifts value away from endless new production towards care for what already exists. It reframes repair as a social gathering and an act of environmental responsibility, proving that innovation can also mean slowing down consumption.
