Hara
Makers

Hara Makers is a social enterprise and upcycling initiative that works with communities to transform plastic waste into functional, aesthetically pleasing products. Collaborations include projects with toy libraries, urban poor communities and recycling hubs, where single-use plastics and discarded toys are cleaned, sorted and reworked into bags, pouches, mats and decorative items.

Workshops form a core part of their practice. Participants learn to cut, fuse and stitch plastics into durable materials while discussing consumption and waste. These sessions provide both environmental education and, in some cases, income-earning skills.

In the terroir economy, Hara Makers shows how design can address urban challenges directly. The plastic that once clogged drains or landfills is reimagined as colourful, long-lasting products, reminding us that creativity and care can shift the story of even the most problematic materials.
